Kia officially reveals next Sorento

Seven seats: Kia's new Sorento SUV steps up in size.

Redesigned Kia Sorento emerges in Korea ahead of its Seoul motor show debut

10 Mar 2009

KIA has fully revealed its next-generation Sorento SUV for the first time, after issuing a teaser image last month ahead of the all-new wagon’s global public debut (and South Korean release) at the Seoul motor show in April.

Due on sale here late this year, the new unitary-chassis Sorento will be the first to feature accommodation for seven.

It is 95mm longer (at 4685mm), 35mm wider (at 1885mm) and 15mm lower (at 1710mm) than its ladder-frame predecessor – despite riding on a 5mm-shorter (2700mm) wheelbase.

As we’ve previously reported, the new XM-series Sorento will be available with a Euro V emissions-compliant 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine, plus 2.4-litre petrol and (in Korea) 2.7-litre LPG power, while a 3.8-litre petrol V6 is also expected.

While it looks almost nothing like the radical KDN-4 concept that was believed to have previewed its exterior design, the new Sorento has been confirmed to feature options including a panoramic sunroof, voice-activated navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, hill-start assist and downhill brake control.
