Released: Dec 2005

Months after BMW releases its next-generation V10-powered 373kW M5, the Munich car-maker will launch the same engine in its all-new 6 Series coupe and convertible. A spiritual successor the 850i, strictly limited numbers of the M6 will be available Down Under by around December 2005.

Model: MX-5

Released: Dec 2005

Mazda revealed the Ibuki concept at Tokyo 03 as the first preview of its replacement for the world's most popular sports car. Due on sale by late 2005, the second-generation MX-5 may feature a new mid-engined, twin-backbone chassis and big advances in safety, comfort and equipment.

Model: IS

Released: Dec 2005

Lexus will unveil an all-new IS200/300 sedan replacement in the final quarter of 2005. Larger, more powerful and more luxurious than Lexus' current 3 Series rival, the new IS range should include sedan, coupe and cabriolet variants for the first time, but there will be no Sport Cross hatch model.

Model: 300C - sedan

Released: Nov 2005

Chrysler will release its Commodore/Falcon-size 300C sedan in Australia in right-hand drive guise direct from Chrysler’s US factory by late 2005. Based on a platform that also underpins the E-class, the 300C will spawn a Touring version but will carry a premium price over its Ford and Holden rivals.

Make: Saab

Model: 9-3 - Sport Hatch

Released: Nov 2005

Saab unveilled its third new 9-3 variant at the 2003 Frankfurt motor show but for all the linkage with Saab's previous 9-3X crossover concept, this car is more a traditional Euro-prestige wagon - powered by Saab's 2.0 turbo four. It's a definite for Australia, but won't arrive here until late 2005.

Make: Honda

Model: Legend

Released: Oct 2005

Lighter, larger and more powerful, Honda's all-new luxury flagship will be priced around $85K when it goes on sale here in late 2005. The new Legend sedan uses a complex all-wheel-drive system to handle the new 3.5-litre V6's 220kW and 353Nm. Rumours of a rear-drive V8 Legend have proved ill-founded.

Make: Jeep

Model: Liberator

Released: Oct 2005

A new Jeep loosely based on the Compass concept car will be released in the US in mid-2004. Based on the "Project America" Galant platform rather than that of the mid-sized Cherokee, the baby Jeep is rumoured to be called Liberator, but is not confirmed for Australian sale.

Make: Holden

Model: Monaro - AWD

Released: Oct 2005

An AWD Monaro due on sale in 2005 is a swansong for the current, VT-based Monaro, a model that will continue to be part of the 2006 VE Commodore range. Monaro AWD will follow Holden's first "low-ride" AWD passenger car, the HSV Coupe4, by more than 12 months as part of the VZII line-up.

Model: Kalos

Released: Oct 2005

The Giugiaro-penned Kalos gets a Mike Simcoe-styled make-over for its midlife facelift, which will also include a lower, sportier entry-level three-door variant. AImed primarily at the Euro market, the three-door Kalos will - like the five-door - feature revised front, rear and interior styling, plus an updated 1.5.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Passat

Released: Oct 2005

For its sixth-generation Passat VW will eschew the current A4/A6 platform for a stretched version of the MkV Golf, so expect improved dynamics. Expect luxury Phaeton (sedan) and Touareg (wagon) styling cues, high cabin quality, a new 3.2 FSI petrol V6, A6's turbo-diesel, six-speed auto and more features.

Make: Daihatsu

Model: Terios

Released: Oct 2005

Daihatsu's pint-sized Terios off-roader comes in for wholesale change during 2005, when an all-new replacement becomes due. Little is known about the next-generation Terios, a model that first appeared here in July 1997 before being facelifted with a more powerful 1.3-litre engine in October 2000.

Model: Carnival

Released: Oct 2005

Kia will produce an all-new Carnival in 2005. Known as Sedona in other markets, Carnival was Kia's most popular model globally in its launch year of 1999. Kia is keen to maintain Carnival's reputation as Australia's top-selling people-mover and to become a top five global car-maker by 2010.

Model: Sorento - LWB

Released: Oct 2005

Kia plans to get in on the seven-seater medium off-roader act by producing a long-wheelbase version of its popular Sorento by 2005. Matching the likes of Toyota's highly successful Prado, the stretched Sorento will give the cut-priced Kia even more sales avenues.

Make: Holden

Model: Tigra - TwinTop

Released: Oct 2005

Holden is considering importing the all-new, Barina-based Tigra TwinTop, which was developed by GM's European subsidiary Opel to rival Peugeot's successful 206CC. Lanched at Geneva 04 and complete with folding steel roof, the two-seater TwinTop could be launched here in 2005, priced under $35,000.

Model: 407 - Coupe

Released: Oct 2005

A replacement for Peugeot's lovely 406 coupe will arrive within 18 months of the new 407 sedan, around October 2005. Peugeot Oz will not import the facelifted 406 Coupe launched late 2003, leaving Pug coupe fans high and dry until then. The 407 Coupe will be based on the 407 sedan (pictured).

Make: Volvo

Model: XC50

Released: Oct 2005

Volvo's P1 platform, on which the S40 and V50 are based, will also spawn a compact off-roader that is likely to be badged XC50. A five-door, all-wheel drive wagon, XC50 will be similar in concept to XC70, but smaller and cheaper. Volvo gave a hint to its appearance with this model at the 2003 New York show.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: GST

Released: Oct 2005

A year after unveilling the concept, Mercedes-Benz revealed the production version of its Vision Grand Sports Tourer at the 2004 Detroit show. Said to be a saloon, van, estate and SUV all in one, the AWD GST is due on sale in Europe by early 2005 and could go on sale here later in the year.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Neos-II

Released: Oct 2005

Hyundai unveiled a micro crossover concept at the 2003 Tokyo motor show called Neos-II. The four-seater Neos-II would be positioned as a Terios-sized light off-roader below the compact Santa Fe and medium Terracan SUVs – and it could be on sale here in 2005 after debuting globally about September 2004.

Model: Corvette

Released: Oct 2005

HSV toyed with the idea of a locally converted Corvettes for some time but eventually decided against making them available in any number. With the reveal of the all-new 2005 Corvette at Detroit 04, all that could change if HSV makes the business case for right-hand drive conversion work.

Make: Jaguar

Model: XK

Released: Oct 2005

Like the new XJ sedan, the next-gen XK coupe/convertible will adopt some of the stylistic details of the R-D6 Frankfurt motor show concept (pictured). Codenamed X150, the new V8-powered XK8 and XKR will be based on the all-alloy XJ saloon, finally putting the 1975-vintage XJS platform to pasture.

Model: Rio

Released: Oct 2005

A redesigned Rio is scheduled for launch in October, when Rio becomes a sibling of parent Hyundai's entry-level Accent. The larger new 85kW Rio small car will be a Sydney star following its 2005 Detroit (sedan) and Geneva (hatch) debuts. The new model should offer even more value for money.

Model: Punto - Abarth

Released: Sep 2005

Fiat's new Punto mini car will be part of the proposed Australian Fiat line-up to be launched in 2005. One of Fiat's best selling models ever, the Punto should line up in high-performance Arbath guise alongside the larger Stilo, in both GT and Arbath variants.

Model: Magna

Released: Sep 2005

Come October, today's 1996-vintage Magna will look a lot like America's new mid-sized Galant - a model with which Mitsubishi's vital Magna replacement will share both both its name and platform - previewed at the 2004 New York show. Larger, stronger and roomier, the front-drive 2005 sedan-only Magna/Galant will be powered by a 180kW 3.8 V6 and five-speed auto.

Model: Grand Cherokee

Released: Aug 2005

The third-generation Jeep Grand Cherokee was unveilled at the 2004 New York show. Fresh looks and better dynamics via rack-and-pinion steering, independent front and five-link, live-axle rear suspension are highlights, along with 3.7-litre V6 and 4.7-litre V8 engines with five-speed autos. Expect America's new mid-sized luxury SUV here by August from around $90,000.

Model: Grand Vitara

Released: Aug 2005

Suzuki's MK3 SUV promises more on-road refinement without off-road compromise thanks to a new monocoque chassis. Revised 1.6 and 2.0 engines and a 2.7 DOHC V6, bigger bodies and cabins, better looks and sharp pricing are also highlights.

Model: Commodore

Released: Aug 2005

The last change to the current, VT-based Commodore before the all-new VE arrives in 2006, the VZ Series II update is expected to go on sale around August 2005. Expect only minor cosmetic changes, more equipment, the possible debut of Chev's new Gen IV V8 and run-out deals in early 2006.

Released: Jul 2005

Debuting at September's Paris motor show and on sale in Europe from March, Alfa Romeo’s facelifted 147 premium hatch increases its rivalry for models like VW Golf, Audi A3 and BMW 1 Series with revised styling, an improved cabin and suspension and engine changes. 147 GTA will be unchanged.

Model: 5 Series - M5

Released: Jul 2005

BMW will top off its all-new E60 5 Series range with the mother of all M5s in July 2005, when the fourth-generation M5 sports sedan goes on sale here with a 373kW/520Nm 5.0-litre V10 engine, priced at $226,000. The same engine will be shared by the all-new M6 coupe, also due here in (late) 2005.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Tiburon - convertible

Released: Jun 2005

Based on the Hyundai Tiburon coupe, this prototype adds an electric glass-roof developed by Karmann that transforms itself from cabriolet to targa and then to a coupe. Hyundai says public response will determine if the vehicle is produced, but word is a Tiburon convertible could be on sale here in 2005.

Make: Peugeot

Model: 107

Released: Jun 2005

Peugeot will release what will be the smallest Pug ever sold in Australia when the successor to Europe's 106, the three-door 107 hatch, goes on sale here in 2005. Expected to closely resemble Peugeot's Sesame concept car, 107 will feature twin sliding doors, but not the show car's power-operated items.

Model: 3 Series

Released: Jun 2005

BMW's next-gen E90 3 Series sedan has surfaced and will go on sale here in mid-2005 featuring a longer wheelbase, larger interior, X3-style lighting and 5 Series gadgets such as electrohydraulic braking and active steering. Expect all-new 2.5 and 3.0-litre sixes and an updated 2.0 four for the 320i entry model.

Model: Pathfinder

Released: Jun 2005

Revealed at Detroit 04 and similar to the vehicle Nissan Oz hopes will go on sale here around mid-2005, the redesigned Pathfinder will grow to include seven seats, independent suspension all round, a choice of a 4.0-litre petrol or 2.5-litre diesel power and a new AWD system. Priced from around $40,000.

Model: A-class

Released: May 2005

An all-new A-class is due on sale here in early 2005. Debuting at the 2004 Paris motor show, the 2005 A-class will be available with three or five doors, a choice of 1.5-litre or 2.0-litre petrol engines and possibly a 1.7-litre turbo-diesel. It will rival BMW's new 1 Series, priced from around $35,000.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Phaeton

Released: May 2005

Volkswagen will launch its most luxurious - and expensive - model ever at the 2005 Melbourne show, when the Phaeton limousine goes on sale here following its local debut at Sydney 04. One V8 model will be available (meaning no V6 or W12) to rival the Benz S350 and BMW 735i at around $175,000.

Model: Focus

Released: Apr 2005

Ford's all-new Focus is due on sale here around April 2005 following its local debut at the Melbourne show. The bigger, more powerful Focus shares its chassis architecture with Mazda3 and Volvo S40 and offers 107kW/185Nm. Available from April in three and five-door versions, from around $22,000.

Model: Adventra

Released: Apr 2005

Holden's VZ Adventra range goes on sale in April 2005, complete with 3.6-litre Alloytec V6 for the first time. In addition to the V8-powered Commodore wagon-based Adventras (currently $49,990 for the CX and $56,990 for the LX), the V6 will reduce Adventra's starting price to $40,990.

Model: CLS-class

Released: Apr 2005

Mercedes revealed its much anticipated CLS four-door coupe-sedan at the 2003 Frankfurt show and later confirmed it will enter production, with Australia set to take delivery in 2005. Based on the E-class platform, the slinky four-door offers a sedan-like 829mm of rear legroom and boot volume of 470 litres.

Make: Volvo

Model: XC90 - diesel

Released: Mar 2005

Volvo is expected to add turbo-diesel power to its two-model XC90 SUV range by early 2005, possibly around Melbourne show time in March. The oil-burning XC90 will get the entry-level 2.5T petrol's five-speed auto (not the T6's four-speeder), plus Volvo's new common rail five-cylinder 122kW D5 engine.

Model: GS

Released: Mar 2005

Lexus showed its third-generation GS medium sedan at Detroit 04, following the LF-S concept at Tokyo 03. Larger than the six-year-old GS300, the coupe-like sedan features all-wheel drive on some models (but not Australian ones), a new 3.0 V6 and a GS430 V8 model. Priced from around $100,000.

Model: CLK-class - CLK200

Released: Mar 2005

The asking price for Mercedes-Benz's CLK-class coupe should dip below the $100,000 mark when the entry-level CLK200 Kompressor finally becomes available kin Australia in March. It will join the CLK240, CLK320, CLK500 and CLK55 AMG in the two-door range.

Released: Mar 2005

Mercedes-Benz will roll out a better-performing version of its popular V6 E-class, with the E350 due to replace E320 from March. The 3.5-litre V6 is already available in the new SLK and will also eventually replace the 320 versions of C-class sedan and CLK coupe models.

Model: C4

Released: Mar 2005

An all-new model to replace and the six-year-old Xsara range, the three and five-door C4 hatch will target the likes of 307, Megane, Astra and Golf. To share its floorpan, suspension and engines with Peugeot 307, C4 will go on sale here in March 2005, available in 1.6 and 2.0-litre versions from around $26K.

Model: Megane - Grand Scenic

Released: Mar 2005

The largest of the seven-bodystyle Megane range is the seven-seater Grand Scenic, which comprises a longer wheelbase than the five-seater Scenic alongside which it should be sold. Expect the new Scenic on sale here in the first quarter of 2005, powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder from around $28,000.

Model: SL-class - SL65 AMG

Released: Mar 2005

Mercedes-Benz will bring the performance of its SL large coupe to new heights when it releases the flagship SL65 AMG. Powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre V12 offering 450kW, it makes the SL350, SL500, SL55 AMG and even the 368kW SL600 V12 look and feel ordinary.

Model: S40 - AWD

Released: Mar 2005

Volvo's all-new S40 compact sedan is likely to score all-paw motivation when an all-wheel drive, T5-powered version of Volvo's most important car goes on sale here around Melbourne motor show time in March 2005. Expect a smaller price premium than that charged by the S60 AWD over regular S60s.

Model: SLK-class - SLK55 AMG

Released: Mar 2005

The new SLK convertible will be blessed with supercharged 5.4-litre V8 power when Mercedes-Benz launches the SLK55 AMG in March. Expect firmer suspension, more equipment, 18-inch wheels, a seven-speed auto and of course more performance from the limited-edition SLK flagship.

Model: Espace

Released: Mar 2005

Renault Australia has chosen to delay the release of its Espace full-size people-mover until early 2005 amid a glut of new models in 2004. Featuring seating for seven and a maximum five-star European crash test rating, the fourth-generation Espace will be Renault's first large people-mover sold here.

Model: A3 - Sportback

Released: Feb 2005

The five-door version of the second-generation A3 - called the A3 Sportback - is due on sale here around February, 2005. It will look significantly different to the three-door, which means that Audi will keep selling both here, unlike with the previous model. Engines should include 1.6 and 2.0 petrol, and 2.0 diesel.

Model: Courier - V6

Released: Feb 2005

Ford will brace its Courier light truck against tough new competition with a keenly priced V6 offering free air-conditioning and automatic. The 4.0 154kW/323Nm V6 will be available in 4x2 and 4x4 Super Cab and Crew Cab styles in GL and XLT guises only (there is no Courier cab-chassis V6).

Model: Boxster

Released: Feb 2005

Porsche will launch its second-generation Boxster convertible range in February. Offering more performance, more acceleration, more equipment and a lower pricetag - but only subtle styling changes despite all-new sheetmetal - the new Boxster and Boxster S remain the roadsters to beat.

Model: Crewman - Cross8

Released: Feb 2005

In addition to a revised 5.7-litre V8-powered Crewman Cross8, the VZ AWD range is expected to include a 3.6-litre Alloytec V6-powered all-wheel drive version of its four-door ute dubbed Cross6. Like Adventra V6, it will be priced a good deal lower than its V8 stablemate, which is currently $51,990.

Model: Sirion

Released: Feb 2005

Daihatsu - the Toyota-owned, sub-1.3-litre car-maker - rolled out a preview of its all-new Sirion small car at the 2003 Tokyo show, called the XL-C concept. Due on sale in late February, the new five-door will share a platform with the next Toyota Echo, so expect good value from Daihatsu's volume seller.

Model: 407 - Touring

Released: Jan 2005

The all-new 407 sedan was launched quietly Down Under in late 2004 and will now spawn a five-seater Touring wagon variant. Given the current 406 wagon's popularity, expect the same turbo-diesel engine that will grace the 407 sedan from January 2005 to also be available in the wagon.

Make: Mini

Model: Cabrio

Released: Jan 2005

Launched in Europe in 2004, BMW's four-seater Mini Cabrio will feature a powered soft-top roof and a 1.6-litre engine capable of 85kW/150Nm or a supercharged version with 120kW/210Nm. Australian sales will begin from January 2005 priced around $47,000.
