Renault’s RS Clio hot hatch will be a five-door only proposition and will come exclusively with a turbocharged engine when it arrives in Australia in early 2014. Expect improved performance from the 149kW 1.6-litre turbo that will be mated to a dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Model: Wraith

Released: Dec 2013

The first new car to emerge from Rolls Royce in four years and powered by the same 6.6-litre V12 found in the Rolls Royce Ghost. An output of 465kW makes the two-door coupe the British car maker’s most powerful model. First arrivals are expected to omit some of the satellite navigation technology found in the European versions.

Model: XJ - XJR

Released: Dec 2013

The big Jaguar XJR gets a power boost up to 404kW over the XJ-S’ 375kW. Mighty supercharged V8 (lifted from the XFR-S) and weight saving aluminium construction are expected to contribute to a sub five-second zero to 100km/h figure.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Accent - SR

Released: Dec 2013

Australia is on track to become the world’s first market to offer a sporty SR version of the Accent, following its 2012 preview at the Sydney motor show. Joining the larger i30 SR, which launched in August 2013, the Accent has had significant local input and will offer performance and dynamic improvements over the regular range. Expect pricing around $21K and power around the 100kW mark.

Model: ix35

Released: Dec 2013

Unveiled at the 2013 Geneva motor show in March, Hyundai’s heavily upgraded ix35 brings the promise of improved ride and handling for Australia, and, potentially, more power and economy with an all-new 2.0-litre ‘Nu’ four-cylinder petrol engine set to replace the ‘Theta II’ version in the current model. Diesel engine improvements are also in the mix, plus a new ‘flex steer’ system tweaked (along with the suspension) specifically for our market.

Make: Skoda

Model: Octavia

Released: Dec 2013

Skoda has announced its new Octavia will be larger and more upmarket than its predecessor, giving the Czech company the scope to better compete with mid-size kings like the Ford Mondeo. The introduction of the smaller Rapid means the next model, based on the brand new VW MQB platform from the Golf, will no longer have to 'straddle' the small and mid-sized passenger segments.

Make: Nissan

Model: Altima

Released: Dec 2013

Nissan will re-enter the mid-size segment with the launch of the Altima in the second half of 2013. Already a strong seller in the US, the Altima will come with a choice of a 2.5-litre four-cylinder or 3.5-litre V6 engine. It will also hit the track as the newest entrant in V8 Supercar racing, powered by a Nissan V8, but don’t expect this version to be available in showrooms.

Make: Porsche

Model: Panamera

Released: Dec 2013

Porsche’s Panamera range gets an update in late 2013, but the controversial styling will remain largely unchanged. The update will mainly be related to powertrains, with a new plug-in hybrid version on the cards and an upgraded V6. Fuel consumption for the Hybrid Porsche is a respectable 3.5 litres per 100km, compared to 7.1L/100km for the current hybrid model.

Make: Nissan

Model: Pathfinder

Released: Nov 2013

The fourth-generation Pathfinder, which reverts to a car-like monocoque platform instead of the previous Navara body-on-frame architecture. The more svelte seven-seat 4x4 wagon – unveiled in concept form at the 2012 Detroit show – will be imported into Australia from Nissan’s US plant in Tennessee. A smaller V6 petrol engine and CVT transmission promise to increase efficiency.

Model: ES

Released: Nov 2013

Lexus has confirmed that it will bring its ES mid-size range back to Australia after killing off the second generation Camry-based sedan in late 2005. The front drive ES will slot between the smaller IS and larger GS ranges and is based on the American-inspired Toyota Avalon.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: S-Class

Released: Nov 2013

A raft of new safety and comfort technologies will appear in the next-generation Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is scheduled for Australian showrooms in late 2013. World-first technology will include a braking airbag under the nose to reduce impact speed, airbags in the rear seatbelts and ‘intelligent’ suspension that can scan road surfaces ahead and adjust accordingly.

Model: EcoSport

Released: Nov 2013

Ford's Fiesta-based sub-$25,000 crossover will have the looks of a baby Territory and feature two Ford Australia firsts: the first to be sourced from the sub-continent and the first to be powered by the company’s all-new 90kW/170Nm 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder petrol engine.

Make: Land Rover

Model: Range Rover Sport

Released: Nov 2013

All aluminium construction results in a 420kg weight saving over the previous model and accounts for performance and efficiency improvements. The new Sport will be the first Range Rover to be available with a seven-seat option. A diesel hybrid version will follow in 2014.

Model: X5

Released: Nov 2013

When BMW’s third-generation X5 line-up launches in late 2014, it could include an entry-level two-wheel drive variant, bringing it into line with a number of other SUVs. Larger than the outgoing model, the 2013 X5 features sharper, more aggressive styling, a redesigned interior and a suite of new or revised powerplants.

Model: Juke

Released: Nov 2013

The oddball Nissan Juke crossover SUV has finally been confirmed for the Australian market. Drive for the quirky car is either exclusively to the front wheels or all four via a part-time 4x4 system. Engine choices include two 1.6-litre petrol units and a Renault-sourced 1.5-litre turbo-diesel.

Make: Peugeot

Model: 2008

Released: Oct 2013

French carmaker Peugeot will join the growing sub-compact SUV segment with the 2008 in late 2013 going head-to-head with the Holden Trax, Ford EcoSport and Nissan Juke. Based on the 208 light car, the 2008 will be powered by a turbocharged three-cylinder 1.2-litre engine with the possibility of a diesel down the track.

Model: Panda

Released: Oct 2013

Fiat's quirky Panda light hatch goes on sale in Australia this year, adding to the Italian car-maker's expanding local line-up. A 1.2-litre four cylinder engine has been confirmed but there is a chance the Panda will get the option of Fiat's two-cylinder TwinAir turbo unit. The tiny Panda's interior is dominated by Fiat's 'squircle' shapes, making for a unique cabin experience.

Make: BMW

Model: 4 Series

Released: Oct 2013

BMW will differentiate its 3 Series Coupe and Convertible models from its sedan and wagon siblings by changing the name to 4 Series when the new model launches in Australia in mid 2013. This will bring it into line with the 5 Series/6 Series nomenclature. The hi-po M4 variant is not expected to reach local showrooms until 2014.

Model: Koup

Released: Oct 2013

Kia’s second-gen Koup is confirmed for a local berth at the end of 2013, just months ahead of the Pro_Cee’d GT hot-hatch. Kia promises a sportier Koup this time around, addressing concerns that the original version didn’t have the go to match its looks. Kia Australia will add a turbo version for extra performance.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: CLA

Released: Oct 2013

Mercedes will fill another niche in mid-2013, this time with the CLA small sedan. The CLA is based on the same platform used for both the latest B-Class and forthcoming A-class, and its sleek coupe-like styling gives it a mini-CLS feel. Mercedes-Benz hopes to price the CLA from around $50,000 when it arrives.

Model: A-class - A45 AMG

Released: Sep 2013

Mercedes-Benz will enter the hot hatch market for the first time with a fire-breathing all-wheel drive version of the all-new A-Class. The A45 AMG will most likely be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, capable of producing around 245kW and go head to head with the BMW M135i, RenaultSport Megane RS265 and the Audi S3. Expect an $80,000 price tag.

Make: Volvo

Model: V40 - Cross Country

Released: Sep 2013

Volvo’s new V40 hatch will spawn a high-riding Cross Country version in the second half of 2013. The jacked up Cross Country will be 40mm higher than the standard V40 hatch and will have similar crossover visual clues as its XC70 stable-mate, such as black lower body cladding and silver scuff plates, providing a premium alternative to Subaru’s popular XV.

Model: CR-V - diesel

Released: Sep 2013

Honda has high hopes for the British-built diesel version of its CR-V when it arrives in late 2013. The Japanese carmaker expects a jump in sales of the popular compact SUV with more people looking at diesel powertrains in the SUV market. Expect a starting price around $40,000.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: E-class - E63 AMG

Released: Sep 2013

The roll-out of Mercedes’ updated E-Class range will culminate in the arrival of the super hot E63 AMG in September. The 2013 iteration will have a far more aggressive look than its predecessor and will be available with a new range-topping S-Model that will pump out 430kW from its 5.5-litre bi-turbo engine and sprint to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds.

Jaguar will add a sporty new convertible to their line-up when the F-Type arrives in Australia mid-2013. The all-aluminium roadster will go head-to-head with the likes of the Porsche Boxster and Mercedes-Benz SLK.

Model: Clio

Released: Aug 2013

Renault will launch the full range of its all-new Clio in Australia to tap into the growing demand for light cars. The Clio will come with a range of turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines with claimed fuel consumption of 3.2 litres per 100km, which could make it the most fuel-efficient car on the market. The sleek new Clio hatch will be available with three or five doors.

Model: Fiesta - ST

Released: Aug 2013

Ford will tempt hot hatch fans with a hot Fiesta ST pocket rocket, which with an expected 134kW of power and 240Nm of torque from its 1.6-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder engine, will bolt to 100km/h in less than seven seconds, making it the most potent Fiesta ever built for the road despite fuel consumption and CO2 emissions cut by 20 per cent over the previous model.

Model: E-class - Coupe and Cabriolet

Released: Aug 2013

Mercedes-Benz will release the revised E-Class coupe and convertible in September, a few months after the introduction of the sedan and wagon. The two-door range will share similar styling to the rest of the E-Class range, but will be differentiated by a single-blade grille instead of the two-blade grill on the sedan.

Model: Mokka

Released: Aug 2013

Opel's Mokka compact crossover is odds-on for SUV-obsessed Australia. The Barina-based five-seater is just 80mm longer than a Golf and is likely to be offered here with either a 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine or a 1.7-litre diesel. Hi-tech safety aids include camera-driven driver assistance systems such as lane departure warning, forward collision alert and road sign recognition.

Model: E-class

Released: Aug 2013

A mid-life update for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class mid-sizer comprises a restyle and new technologies that will appear in the large S-Class later in the year. The sedan and wagon range will launch in Australia mid-year and feature new or upgraded driver aids and safety equipment such as driver fatigue detection and anti-glare adaptive headlights.

Model: Grand Cherokee

Released: Aug 2013

Jeep revealed a refreshed version of its top-selling Grand Cherokee SUV at the Detroit show in January before a likely local release mid-year. The 2013 model will sport an updated grille, new head and tail lights and interior improvements such as the addition of Chrysler’s UConnect touchscreen display.

Model: Aventador - Roadster

Released: Aug 2013

Iconic supercar-maker Lamborghini will rip the lid off its Aventador with a drop-top version to arrive in Australia in late 2013. The Aventador Roadster will be powered by a 515kW 6.5-litre V12 that can match the coupe’s 350km/h top speed. A 17 per cent price jump over the coupe means Australian buyers can expect to pay around $880,000.

Model: A6 - RS6 Avant

Released: Aug 2013

Audi’s third-generation RS6 Avant will storm into Australian showrooms in late 2013 with a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.9 seconds. The performance wagon will be powered by a tweaked version of Audi’s 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 412kW of power between 5700 and 6700rpm and 700Nm of torque between 1750 and 5500rpm.

Model: SLS AMG - Black Series

Released: Aug 2013

A lightweight Black Edition version of Mercedes’ SLS AMG will arrive in Australia in very limited numbers in the third quarter. The SLS AMG will be the most potent Black Series model to date with a hand-built 6.3-litre V8 that produces a whopping 464kW, up 44kW from the standard model, to race to 100km/h in 3.6 seconds.

Model: Trax

Released: Aug 2013

Holden will launch the Barina-based Trax compact SUV in 2013. The Trax will sell in other markets as a Buick Encore and Opel Mokka, but the local version will feature slightly different styling. It is unclear what powerplant it will get, but expect a four-cylinder engine of less than two-litre capacity, with the possibility of front- or all-wheel drive.

Released: Aug 2013

After taking back distribution of Fiat in 2012, the Fiat Chrysler Group will expand the Italian brand’s line-up with the re-introduction of the Punto small car in late 2013. There is a chance that Fiat’s Twin-Air two-cylinder engine will be available as an option, with pricing for the aging hatch to start around $18,000.

Released: Aug 2013

The diminutive Fiesta hatch will receive a mid-life upgrade in 2013, bringing with it the option of Ford’s award-winning and super-frugal three-cylinder 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine. The Fiesta will feature Ford’s latest Aston-Martin-esque corporate face plus new safety and comfort equipment, including Ford’s SYNC connectivity system.

BMW’s Z4 roadster will receive a minor update with some subtle cosmetic changes, including new LED headlights, redesigned vents and new alloy wheels. New colours and more customisation options will also be on offer for the sporty convertible when it arrives in Australia in the middle of the year.

Released: Jul 2013

A drop-top version of Audi’s RS5 performance coupe will arrive in Australia in July with the same 4.2-litre FSI V8 as the coupe and RS4 Avant. Expect a 0-100km/h time of 4.9 seconds when the convertible lands on Australian shores.

Model: Paceman - John Cooper Works

Released: Jul 2013

Mini’s Paceman crossover coupe gets the John Cooper Works treatment mid year, with the all-wheel drive JCW variant getting the same 160kM/280Nm 1.6-litre turbo engine as the Countryman JCW. It will be mated to a six-speed manual or optional six-speed auto with paddle shifters and race from 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds.

Lexus replaces its aging IS sedan mid-year with a new-generation model that will be available with a hybrid powertrain for the first time. With a design based on the LF-CC Coupe concept from the 2012 Paris motor show, the new IS will also feature new technology such as an eight-speed automatic transmission and a pop-up bonnet for pedestrian safety.

Model: 6 Series - M6 Gran Coupe

Released: Jul 2013

BMW’s M6 Gran Coupe will become the German marque’s fastest four-door car when it arrives in the third quarter of the year, beating the M5 sedan. Expect a price tag in the $300,000 range for the M6, which will be powered by Beemer’s 4.4-litre V8 and will race to 100km/h in 4.2 seconds, 0.1 second quicker than the M5.

Released: Jun 2013

Holden will attempt to reignite interest in the large-car segment in Australia by releasing its crucial VF Commodore in mid-2013. The new model is expected to be lighter, more fuel efficient and safer than the model it replaces, and will reportedly be available with a collision warning system and blind-spot alert. Expect an upgraded V6 and optional V8 for the all-important model.

Model: F12 Berlinetta

Released: Jun 2013

Italian supercar maker Ferrari will unleash the fastest and most powerful road car it has ever built in the first quarter of 2013. The F12 Berlinetta will be propelled by a 6.3-litre naturally aspirated V12 capable of reaching 100km/h in just 3.1 seconds.

NISSAN Australia is getting set to revive the Pulsar SSS badge to widen the appeal of the small car locally. The Pulsar SSS hatch follows on from the sedan that launches earlier in 2013 as the replacement for the poorly-received Tiida small car.

Released: Jun 2013

Based on the same Epsilon II platform that underpins the highly regarded Opel Insignia, the Malibu mid-sizer will slot neatly between the Cruze and Commodore in Holden's range to replace the unloved Epica sedan. 2.5-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines are likely plus a Camry Hybrid-baiting 'Eco' model is also a possibility for Australia.

Kia Australia looks set to introduce a new-generation Rondo compact people-mover in the early stages of 2013, with styling that brings it into line with the company's signature Peter Schreyer-led design language.

Released: May 2013

Honda’s CR-Z hybrid sports coupe will get subtle styling changes and a boost in power to both the petrol and electric engines as a part of a MY 2013 upgrade. The combined power output of the hybrid system will be 101kW, up 41kW on the previous model. New colours and interior updates will also feature when the car arrives in local showrooms.

Model: Civic - diesel

Released: May 2013

Likely to feature an 88kW/300Nm i-DTEC powerplant, the British-built Honda Civic hatch is set to replace the 2.2-litre diesel used across a wide range of European Honda models, including Accord and CR-V. Honda promises the engine will achieve sub-100 grams per kilometre of CO2.

Model: GL-Class

Released: May 2013

Mercedes-Benz’s heavily revised GL-Class will to go head-to-head with Range Rover in the luxury SUV segment when it arrives in Australia. Bigger than the model it replaces, the GL-Class will be powered by either a turbo-diesel V6 or a V8 petrol engine that uses Merc’s BlueEfficiency technology. Mercedes promises levels of comfort on par with the S-Class limo.

Released: May 2013

A new sub-$20,000 variant of the baby Fiat 500 will be the focus of a refreshed 500 lineup in the second quarter of 2013 to try and build the brand in Australia and grow sales to a more budget-conscious buyer.

Model: 5008

Released: May 2013

Peugeot will try and appeal to families when it launches its 5008 compact people mover in Australia this year. The French family hauler is a rival for the likes of the Honda Odyssey and sister company Citroen’s C4 Picasso. The 5008 will likely be offered in one specification level with a turbo petrol or turbo diesel engine.

Make: Great Wall

Model: VX10

Released: May 2013

Great Wall’s first passenger car, the VX10 light car, will land in Australia by mid 2013 in a bid to win sales at the budget end of the market. The five-door, five-seater will likely be powered by a 70kW 1.5-litre four cylinder petrol engine with the option of a CVT and come with a decent standard features list for the price.

Released: May 2013

Great Wall is expected to introduce a Corolla-sized three-box C30 sedan to Australia. The C30 rides on a 2610mm wheelbase, has a 510-litre boot and will be powered by an 77kW/138Nm 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, mated to a continuously variable transmission (CVT).

Model: A6 - V6 TDI

Released: May 2013

Audi will add a potent twin-turbo 3.0-litre Biturbo diesel to its A6 range in 2013 and will cut the prices of some models in the range by up to $9000 at the same time. The Biturbo races to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds, a full second quicker to 100km/h than the single turbo 3.0 TDI.

Released: May 2013

Audi will take on the BMW 1 Series and Mercedes-Benz A-Class when the all-new A3 lands in Australia this year. The five-door only A3 features evolutionary styling changes and will be the first vehicle built on the Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform that will ensure a lighter, more efficient car than the current model.

Released: May 2013

Peugeot’s facelifted RCZ that was first unveiled at the Paris show in 2012 will make its way to Australia in the first quarter of 2013. The RCZ gets a new face that is in keeping with the French brand’s current design language as well as more premium cabin surfaces, but no change to the powertrain.

Make: Porsche

Model: Cayenne - S Diesel

Released: May 2013

Porsche will launch its first V8 diesel in Australia, when it arrives under the bonnet of the Cayenne SUV. The 281kW/850Nm 4.2-litre bi-turbo engine is sourced from Audi and will propel the car from 0-100km/h in just 5.7 seconds. Fuel economy sits at a respectable 8.3 litres per 100km for the big SUV that looks set to retail from $155,500.

Model: Civic - diesel

Released: Apr 2013

Honda's UK-sourced Civic hatch will have the honour of being the car-maker's first diesel model in Australia when it arrives in April. The 88kW/300Nm manual-only oil-burner will be priced from $26,990 plus on-road costs.

Model: Q5 - SQ5

Released: Apr 2013

A diesel version of Audi’s hot SQ5 SUV will be cheaper than anticipated when it arrives in April. The SQ5 TDI will be priced around the mid $90,000 mark and sip 6.8-litres per 100km on the combined cycle. The Audi’s 3.0-litre bi-turbo V6 TDI diesel will pump out 230kW/650Nm and shoot from 0-100km/h in 5.1 seconds.

Released: Apr 2013

The next-generation of Kia Australia’s best-selling model will be bigger and more refined than the current version when it arrives in Australia in April. The sporty Insignia will produce 239kW of power and 435Nm of torque and can sprint to 100km/h in 6.3 seconds. Expect pricing to be north of $50,000.

Mercedes-Benz's low-slung three-door front-drive hatchback concept from the 2011 Shanghai showl previewed its third-generation A-class and is expected to morph into a legitimate rival for sporty European compacts such as Audi’s A3 and the BMW 1 Series. The cabin is expected to take a significant step upmarket with an all-new design that borrows components from the C-class.

Mazda will respond to an influx of new compact SUV models in 2013 by shoe-horning the more powerful 2.5-litre SkyActiv-G engine from its Mazda6 into the CX-5. The 2.5-litre unit will be available in petrol all-wheel drive models and is expected to be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. It will deliver 25kW more power than the 2.0-litre unit with an output of 138kW/250Nm.

In response to the old Exige S falling foul of emissions regulations in some markets, Lotus re-enginered and redesigned the hardcore sportscar to take the 327kW 3.5-litre V6 from its larger Evora S stablemate. Mini’s Paceman ‘Sports Activity Vehicle’ will land in March with two petrol-powered variants only, the Cooper and Cooper S. The Paceman is a sporty three-door version of the Countryman SUV on which it is based and will start at around $35,000 for the Cooper 1.6-litre turbo, while the Cooper S will get a more powerful version of the same engine for around $44,000.

Opel’s performance arm, OPC, will expand its presence in Australia with the launch of a hotted-up version of its Corsa light car, following the Astra OPC to market in March. Volvo will release an all-new model to its Australian line-up in the form of the V40 luxury hatch in early 2013. Another Chinese brand will try its luck in Australia when ZX Auto releases its GrandTiger range of utilities. The GrandTiger will be sold in cab-chassis and dual-cab ute styles with a choice of 4x2 and 4x4 drivetrains. Initially a Mitsubishi-sourced 93kW 2.4-litre petrol four-cylinder engine will power the ute but a Toyota-based 2.5-litre turbo-diesel is due later.

Korean carmaker Hyundai will re-introduce the wagon version of its i30 small car after initially ruling it out. Both versions will be available with either petrol or diesel powertrains in manual or auto guise and come at a $2000 premium over their hatch siblings.

The redesigned Nissan Patrol off-roader launched in the Middle East in February 2010 but won't be launched locally until early 2013. Based on a full ladder chassis with all-coil suspension, the Patrol will have significantly revised V8 petrol engines and the possibility of a common-rail turbo-diesel down the track if Nissan can make the numbers add up.

More muscular and masculine than the New Beetle that revived the nameplate in 1998, the 2012 Beetle again will share its underpinnings with the VW Golf. The wagon version of BMW’s hugely successful sixth-generation 3 Series will arrive almost a year after its sedan sibling was released in Australia. BMW claims the Touring will have improved dynamics and be 40kg lighter than the model it replaces.

Nissan’s almighty GT-R will get an upgrade in early 2013 with an improved 0-100km/h figure of 2.7 seconds - 0.1 seconds faster than the previous model. Handling and ride have been improved for the MY2013 GT-R and a top-spec ‘Premium Edition’ has been added that includes a hand-stitched red leather interior option for a $4800 premium over the standard model.
