The next Sport version of Suzuki's light-car staple will pack a 100kW/160Nm 1.6-litre inline four-cylinder mated to a six-speed manual or an auto with paddle shifters on the wheel. The production version losessome of the pumped-up body features from the Swift S-Concept that debuted at the 2011 Geneva show.

Australia’s next-generation Swift hatchback is likely to be released exclusively as a five-door once again, powered by a 1.4 or 1.5-litre petrol engine that is both more powerful and efficient that the current model’s. Suzuki Australia is hopeful of also bringing here a revised 190Nm 1.3-litre turbo-diesel with average fuel consumption of 4.2L/100km and CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

The growing mid-sized sedan sector is under Suzuki’s close scrutiny, as it prepares a rival for the Mazda6, Honda Accord Euro and Ford Mondeo. A concept car revealing much of this model’s look was presented at the 2007 Frankfurt show. An Australian debut is pencilled in for an early 2010 launch.

Suzuki is expected to launch an updated SX4 sedan and hatch range early in 2010. The revised front-drive SX4 sedan and AWD hatch are likely to include a new front bumper, grille, headlamps and wheel trim. The interior trim and specification are also expected to be upgraded.

Suzuki’s Alto light car aims to be the cheapest new car available in Australia – unless the Chinese get there first – with pricing of $11,000. The five-door hatch is powered by a 50kW, 993cc three-cylinder petrol engine, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

SUZUKI will launch a diesel-powered Grand Vitara powered by a Renault 1.9-litre common-rail turbo engine, early in 2008. Delivering 95kW and 300Nm, and linked to a five-speed manual gearbox only. Standard equipment will include cruise control and stability control.

The three-box sedan version of Suzuki’s SX4 hatch has been confirmed on sale in Australia in the third quarter. The front-drive SX4 sedan is powered by a 92kW 1.6-litre VVT four-cylinder engine - instead of the SX4 AWD hatch’s 107kW/184Nm 2.0-litre engine. Expect pricing from around $20,000.

Suzuki’s facelifted EZ-series Swift light car will be released locally in July. It features a new grille treatment, slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, new tail-lights and standard stability control for the Sport - but not turning signals in the wing mirrors as in Japan. There are also upgraded trim levels.

Suzuki will introduce a sedan range of its strong-selling Swift light car, to complement its hatch range. Launch timing is expected by around mid-2007, and the booted Swift should be powered by the same 74kW/133Nm 1.5-litre alloy DOHC VVT four-cylinder engine as the popular hatch.

Suzuki will launch a new small SX4 crossover vehicle, which is designed to fit between the Swift and Grand Vitara, at the 2007 Brisbane motor show. SX should come in two and all-wheel drive, and with the biggest petrol engine available - a 106kW 2.0-litre petrol four mated to 5M and 4A gearboxes.

Suzuki winds up the five-door Swift's street cred still further with the three-door Sport hatch. The Peugeot 206 GTi rival gets a stroked 92kW/148Nm 1.6-litre version of the Swift’s 74kW/133Nm 1.5-litre alloy DOHC VVT four-cylinder, plus tauter suspension and bigger 16-inch alloy wheels.
