Model: 124 - Spider

Released: Feb 2016

Fiat will team up with Japanese car-maker Mazda to produce the next-generation 124 Spider, based on the MX-5 roadster. The twins under the skin will be built using Mazda’s SkyActiv architecture, although each car will feature unique styling and be powered by different engines. The resurrected Spider will be built in Japan but Fiat will tune it in Italy.

The Fiat Chrysler Group will ramp up its platform sharing this year, with the much talked about baby Jeep spawning a soft-roader from Fiat. Likely to receive the 500X moniker, it will be a more city-friendly crossover and will be available in front-wheel drive, leaving the all-wheel drive version to Jeep.

Fiat's quirky Panda light hatch goes on sale in Australia this year, adding to the Italian car-maker's expanding local line-up. A 1.2-litre four cylinder engine has been confirmed but there is a chance the Panda will get the option of Fiat's two-cylinder TwinAir turbo unit. The tiny Panda's interior is dominated by Fiat's 'squircle' shapes, making for a unique cabin experience.

After taking back distribution of Fiat in 2012, the Fiat Chrysler Group will expand the Italian brand’s line-up with the re-introduction of the Punto small car in late 2013. There is a chance that Fiat’s Twin-Air two-cylinder engine will be available as an option, with pricing for the aging hatch to start around $18,000.

The flagship of the 500 model lineup features a turbocharged 1.4-litre engine, producing 118 kW and 230 Nm in ‘sports mode’. The first Abarth- badged Fiat to be sold on our shores is priced around $35,000.

The Punto range will be graced by a top-shelf Abarth SuperSport version in the third quarter, powered by a 111kW 1.4 turbo-petrol four. Driving through a six-speed manual, the Punto Abarth ‘essesse’ is good for 8.2-second 0-100km/h times.

According to Fiat Auto a wagon body style for Bravo will appear around 2010. Australian Fiat distributor Ateco Automotive is yet to finalise engine options and specifications for the Stilo-replacing Bravo, which will go by another name in Australia.

An upgraded Punto range is due to be launched late 2010. Minor interior and exterior trim changes are expected. To be available in three and five-door variants, the revised Punto will offer carryover 1.3-litre and two 1.9-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesels, plus a 1.4-litre SOHC four-cylinder petrol engine.

The funky “sardine-can-top” Fiat 500C convertible, will go on sale in Australia in January priced at $28,990. Appealing to fashion-conscious city-slickers, it will be available in both five-speed manual and five-speed semi-automatic guises. With a no-frills sliding soft-top, the 500C lugs about 40kg more beef than the roofed version.

Released: Mar 2008

The Bravo hatch will be Fiat's second car model to arrive here since the Italian brand's relaunch in 2006 with the Punto - but the Stilo replacement will be called Ritmo here. Expect 78kW and 90kW versions of a new 1.6-litre JTD turbo-diesel, plus a new 132kW 1.9 JTD and 1.4-litre petrol engines.
