Possibly the last hurrah for the current generation Subaru Forester, the STI Sport has styling and suspension tweaks, is based on the Forester 2.5i S AWD. No engine performance or driveline upgrades are offered over donor vehicle.

Due late last year, the priced-up hatch-only new Impreza in L, R and S spec arrives this month with carry-over platform and underpinnings of its predecessor and a familiar driveline with no hybrid or electrification offered. Scores more kit, retains 2.0-litre boxer four cylinder and CVT.

Twin-under-the-skin with Toyota’s bZ4X and the first fully electric Subaru for Oz, the Solterra is also the most expensive model in the Subaru range. The AWD EV is powered by dual electric motors for a combined 160kW/337Nm output and 414km range. Two well-equipped variants are available.

Subaru’s BRZ is updated for 2024 to include a new top of the range tS model with handling and braking improvements along with styling and interior tweaks and more features. It is the same under the bonnet, however, with a familiar 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol and 174kW/250Nm output.

Sixth generation Impreza is a higher priced and significantly updated hatch-only model with carryover underpinnings. It features a familiar driveline with no hybrid or electrification offered locally. Powered by a 2.0-litre four-cylinder and CVT combination it outputs 115kW/196Nm.

Crosstrek replaces Subaru’s XV small SUV and will compete against Kia Seltos, Nissan Qashqai and Toyota Corolla Cross. Priced from $34,990 plus on-road costs, the Crosstrek range includes 2.0L, 2.0R and 2.0S petrol variants, and Hybrid L and S grades. All feature the latest infotainment and safety technologies.

Priced from $52,190 + ORC the Subaru Outback XT utilises a 183kW/350Nm 2.4-litre turbo-petrol flat-four engine. It has a CVT auto transmission, useful braked towing capacity of 2400kg and a generous level of standard equipment. Has two-mode X-Drive AWD system and a full-size spare.    

A special edition, spec-adjusted variant based on the regular 2.5i model that appears to have been commissioned to help overcome supply chain constraints. Initial deliveries expected to commence in time for Christmas priced from $37,890 + ORC.

Additional 2023 Forester stock has arrived for delivery during the fourth quarter of 2022 and may be in showrooms by October. The update is barely noticeable, however, with the only real point of difference being a $1900 price increase. The range kicks off at $37,890 plus ORCs.

The fifth-generation Subaru WRX model has been introduced in sedan and estate (Sportwagon) guises, replete with improved in-car features and more driver-assist and safety technologies.
