Released: Dec 2007

Audi is set to add a 240kW/650Nm 4.2-litre TDI turbo-diesel engine, as seen in the A8 sedan, to its Q7 seven-seater SUV wagon range. Due to arrive here in late 2007, following its world debut at the Geneva motor show in March, it will become the new Q7 flagship.

Make: Nissan

Model: Micra

Released: Dec 2007

Nissan used the Sydney show to announce pin-sharp pricing for its new-to-Oz Micra model, due on sale here in December from under $15,000 - cheap enough to make its light-sized rivals cringe with fear. The five-door hatch will come powered by a 72kW/137Nm 1.4-litre engine - but not the bigger 1.6.

Make: Audi

Model: A8

Released: Dec 2007

Audi Oz will release an upgraded flagship sedan, the A8, by year's end. Apart from a modified grille, exterior mirrors and wheels, plus LED tail-lights and new interior trims, the facelift consists of changes to the A8's adaptive air suspension, steering, running gear and noise suppression systems.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Accent - SR Turbo

Released: Dec 2007

Hyundai's third-generation Accent will morph into a three-door turbocharged hot-hatch modelled on the Accent SR concept in 2007. Expect a tasty bodykit, a tweaked chassis, a technology like the South Korean car giant's new motor driven power steering (MDPS) system and stability control.

With the Vanquish being discontinued, the DBS becomes the performance flagship of the Aston Martin line. For 2007 there will be a deeper air-dam, larger side vents, larger wheels and aerodynamic modifications all around, plus a significant increase in the V12’s power output and performance.

Model: 9-3

Released: Nov 2007

Saab’s new MY2008 9-3 will feature a new fascia inspired by the Aero X concept, new tail-lights and a new all-wheel-drive system, subtly called XWD. Engines include a 1.8-litre turbo-petrol, 1.9-litre turbo-diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol fours, plus a 2.8-litre turbo-pterol V6 in the Aero convertible.

Model: Focus - CC

Released: Nov 2007

Ford has confirmed the Pininfarina-designed Focus coupe-convertible's Australia arrival late-2007. A direct rival to the Holden Astra Twin-Top, Australia is expected to get the 2.0-litre petrol, mated to either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.

Model: LandCruiser

Released: Nov 2007

The all-new 200 Series LandCruiser will be slightly larger than the iconic 100 Series but remains bolted to a full ladder chassis with all-coil suspension. Expect a new 4.5-litre V8 common-rail turbo-diesel with projected outputs of 200kW and 650Nm, a bigger 5.7-litre petrol V8 and a six-speed auto.

Released: Nov 2007

The LS600hL – flagship of Toyota’s premium brand – joins the conventional LS460 in November. With a 122mm-longer wheelbase and all-wheel drive layout, the LS600hL is powered by a 330kW 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine mated to a high-output electric motor. Model: Berlingo HDi

Released: Nov 2007

On the commercial vehicle front, Citroen has tried for some time to add a turbo-diesel engine to its steady-selling Berlingo light van. A range of 1.8 to 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines are available to it, so expect a local release by around late 2007.

Make: Jaguar

Model: XJ

Released: Nov 2007

Jaguar chose Geneva to unveil its facelifted 2008 XJ sedan range, due on sale here in the final quarter. Coming in for mostly cosmetic upgrades, the 08MY XJ has a new Jaguar Growler badge, front bumper, XK-style side power vents, a subtle rear decklid spoiler. There are no engine changes.

Make: Toyota

Model: RAV4 - V6

Released: Nov 2007

A cracking V6 version of the third-generation RAV4 is expected to be launched around September 2007. Already on sale in the US, the six-speed auto-equipped RAV4 will become the fourth model in Toyota's range to offer 3.5-litre V6 power. Expect a seven-seat version to rival Outlander (and Kluger).

Make: Volvo

Model: XC70

Released: Nov 2007

The new XC70 and V70 will be unveiled at the Geneva motor show in March and should arrive in Australia late 2007. The XC70 is tipped to get both the new 175kW/320Nm 3.2-litre straight-six and the D5 turbo-diesel available in the XC90.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: CL-class - CL65 AMG

Released: Oct 2007

Mercedes-Benz's all-new CL65 AMG high-performance coupe receives its marching orders from AMG-branded sisters models in the S65 and SL65. Its twin-turbo V12 offers 450kW/1000Nm and is paired with an AMG five-speed automatic transmission to reach 100km/h from standstill in just 4.4 seconds.

Model: X-Trail

Released: Oct 2007

Nissan’s second-generation X-Trail, shown at the Geneva motor show in March 2007, will be built on the Renault Megane platform. Engines include a revised 2.5-litre petrol engine, and for overseas markets a new 2.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel engine option, sourced from Renault.

Model: Roomster

Released: Oct 2007

Skoda’s versatile Roomster is a compact five-seater people-mover that shares much with parent company VW's Polo but is closer in concept to the (seven-seat) VW Caddy Life. Roomster sits mid-way between the Fabia and Octavia in size and is powered by a range of petrol and diesel engines.

Make: Porsche

Model: 911 - Turbo Cabriolet

Released: Oct 2007

Porsche should release its next 911 Turbo Cabriolet in September. Powered by the same 353kW 3.6-litre twin-turbo boxer as the Turbo coupe, the soft-top differs from the 911 Cabriolet with wider wheel-arches, intake scoops and a pop-up wing. It'll offer both a six-speed manual and a five-speed auto.

Model: Mondeo

Released: Oct 2007

Ford debuted its next-gen Mondeo at the 2007 Melbourne motor show, and has confirmed a late-2007 on-sale date. To be offered in both five-door and four-door guises, Mondeo will offer two petrol engines (a 167kW 2.5-litre five-cylinder and a 120kW 2.3-litre four), plus a 2.0-litre TDCi turbo-diesel.

Model: Elantra - Hatch

Released: Oct 2007

Hyundai's new US-oriented HD Elantra sedan, launched here in October 2006, will morph into a five-foor hatch codenamed FD in October. The German-designed model will be named i30 in Europe and possibly Australia, and will bring cool styling from the 2006 Paris show's Arnejs concept.

Make: Citroen

Model: C3 - 1.6 HDi

Released: Oct 2007

Citroen will launch a new 1.6 HDi 16V turbo-diesel engine to its C3 model range in late 2007. With approximately 82kW of power and 230Nm of torque, it is expected to accelerate the C3 from rest to 100km/h in under 10 seconds. Power is fed via a five-speed manual transmission.

Model: Octavia

Released: Oct 2007

Skoda will launch a revitalized model range starting with the medium Octavia hatch and wagon at the Sydney motor show in October. It will be powered by 77kW 1.9-litre and 110kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines, plus a direct-injection 103kW 2.0-litre petrol four – mated to manual and auto transmissions.

Audi's scintillating new A5 and S5 coupe twins are on sale in Australia earlier than expected - in October 2007. Audi’s first coupe for 11 years will kick off with a front-drive 3.2 FSI V6 CVT A5 variant priced around $90,000, plus the mighty S5 quattro manual with a 4.2-litre FSI V8, priced under $135,000.

Model: R8

Released: Oct 2007

Audi's long-awaited R8 supercar was unveiled at the 2006 Paris motor show and proves faithful to the Le Mans quattro concept car. Closely related to the Lamborghini Gallardo, the R8 is Audi’s first mid-engined exotic and flaunts a 309kW 4.2-litre V8 in a lightweight aluminum space-frame body.

Model: 3 Series - M3

Released: Oct 2007

BMW's next-gen M3 coupe, based on the all-new E92 3 Series Coupe on sale since October 2006, should appear globally by around Frankfurt motor show time 12 months later. Expect outputs of more than 300kW and 420Nm from a new 4.0-litre M5 V10-derived V8, to rival Audi's brilliant RS4.

Make: Hummer

Model: H3

Released: Oct 2007

Holden has confirmed the introduction of America's legendary Hummer brand in Australia by late-2007. The H3 AWD wagon will single-handedly represent the GM-owned US brand, powered by a 3.7-litre 180kW five-cylinder DOHC petrol engine, mated to either five-speed manual or four-speed auto boxes.

Model: Commodore ute

Released: Sep 2007

Holden's redesigned VE Commodore utility is expected to surface about a year after the relase of the all-new short-wheelbase VE and long-wheelbase WM sedans in August and September 2006 respectively. Expect specs, including the VE's new IRS, to echo the new Commodore sedan's.

The new Euro IV Kyron is the first facelift for the mid-range SsangYong SUV since its 2006 launch. A number of major changes had been adopted to deliver a significantly better SUV, including a cleaner-burning, more driveable engine and a raft of styling, trim and specification improvements.

Model: SX4

Released: Sep 2007

The three-box sedan version of Suzuki’s SX4 hatch has been confirmed on sale in Australia in the third quarter. The front-drive SX4 sedan is powered by a 92kW 1.6-litre VVT four-cylinder engine - instead of the SX4 AWD hatch’s 107kW/184Nm 2.0-litre engine. Expect pricing from around $20,000.

Model: Sportage - CRDi

Released: Sep 2007

Kia has upgraded its sportage model range with the addition of a front-drive LX model adopting a 2.0-litre 104kW four-cylinder petrol engine and an EX CRDi AWD variant with a new 2.0-litre common-rail direct-injection turbo-diesel delivering 103kW/304Nm. The 129KW 2.7-litre V6 4x4 is unchanged.

Model: Mazda2

Released: Sep 2007

THE new Mazda2 is set for a Geneva motor show debut in March and may hit our shores by end of 2007. Gone is the dumpy bread-van styling of the current car, replaced with an edgy hatch design with European influences. Reports also suggest that Mazda will offer a wagon-style Mazda2 model. Expect the engines to remain the same.

Model: Impreza

Released: Sep 2007

An all-new Impreza hatch is due to appear from Subaru Down Under by October 2007. It will be followed by a redesigned sedan, both of which will introduce a new European-inspired design language that moves away from the polarising US-oriented styling themes of the Tribeca SUV.

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: Lancer

Released: Sep 2007

Mitsubishi showed its new-generation Lancer sedan at the 2006 Detroit show in January, ahead of an Australian debut later in 2007. The new Lancer will be built on the "project global" platform that also underpins the Outlander. Engines could include a diesel and a 81kW 1.5-litre petrol four.

Model: Aurion - TRD

Released: Aug 2007

The Aurion large sedan will be the first vehicle to get the Toyota Racing Development treatment, but its release has been delayed until around August. Expect the front-drive Aurion TRD to feature a 240kW supercharged version of Aurion's 3.5-litre V6, sports suspension and a bodykit.

Model: Sorento - CRDi

Released: Aug 2007

Kia Motors Australia previewed a diesel version of its popular Sorento 4WD range at the Brisbane International Motor Show, ahead of a planned introduction in July. The Sorento CRDi's 2.5-litre turbo-diesel packs 125kW of power and a mighty 392Nm of torque, plus a 2800kg towing capacity.

Make: Dodge

Model: Avenger

Released: Aug 2007

For 2007 the Dodge Avenger will take centre stage arriving around August. Pitched right into the mid-size arena dominated by the Mazda6, Accord and Subaru Liberty. It has a distinct Dodge “corporate” front end and roomy interior. Three engines, including a 103kW/310Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, driving the front wheels are likely to be offered. Pricing should start around $30,000.

Model: 207 - CC

Released: Aug 2007

Peugeot's 207 range will be joined by three-door GTI and two-door 207CC variants in mid-2007, powered by a direct-injection 128kW/240Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder. Priced at $33,490, the GTI (and the range-topping turbocharged $39,990 1.6-litre 207CC), will be joined by a normally aspirated 207CC.

Model: Santa Fe - 3.3 V6

Released: Aug 2007

Hyundai will add a third engine option to the Santa Fe range in the shape of a 173kW/304Nm 3.3-litre petrol V6 - the same that powers the Sonata sedan. Expected to drive through a five-speed automatic, the V6 Santa Fe is due on sale Down Under in August.

Jeep's second new compact off-roader arrives Down Under in the third quarter of 2007, in the shape of the Patriot SUV - a rival for the likes of Nissan's X-Trail. It will come powered by 2.4-litre petrol and VW-sourced 2.0-litre diesel engines.

Released: Aug 2007

Toyota is expected to unveil the second-generation Kluger SUV at the Detroit motor show in January 2007, ahead of an Australian launch around mid-year. Derived from the Camry platform, the next Kluger will be offered in both front and all-wheel drive formats, powered by Aurion's 3.5-litre V6.

Model: Megane - R26

Released: Aug 2007

Derived from Megane Renault Sport Cup, the Megane F1 Team R26 (featured at the 2006 Melbourne show) features a limited-slip diff, 169kW 2.0-litre engine, Cup chassis and Brembo brakes. The hot-hatch is distinguished by bumper, door and roof badging, plus "Anthracite" 18-inch alloys.

Renault is expected introduce a turbo-diesel version of its Megane sedan by mid-2007. Powered by a 96kW/300Nm 1.9-litre dCi common-rail four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine that is Euro IV emissions compliant, both models will feature a six-speed manual or four-speed auto.

Model: Swift

Released: Jul 2007

Suzuki’s facelifted EZ-series Swift light car will be released locally in July. It features a new grille treatment, slightly redesigned front and rear bumpers, new tail-lights and standard stability control for the Sport - but not turning signals in the wing mirrors as in Japan. There are also upgraded trim levels.

MITSUBISHI’S supercharged TMR Concept 380, shown at last year’s Sydney International Motor Show, is tipped to hit showrooms around mid-year with prices expected to start around $45,000. Released: Jul 2007

Lexus' redesigned flagship sedan will be more than six months overdue when the LS460 arrives on sale here in June 2007. Powered by a 4.6-litre V8 and offering S-class, 7 Series and A8-rivalling tech like air suspension and an eight-speed auto, the new LS range will expand a month later via the world's first hybrid limousine, the long-wheelbase petrol-electric LS600hL.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: C-Class

Released: Jul 2007

The all-new Mercedes-Benz C-class appears globally in early 2007 and will arrive Down Under from about mid-year. Expect the wagon to arrive six months after the redesigned compact sedan. The new C will offer a direct-injection 1.8-litre four, 2.5 and 3.5-litre V6s and 3.0-litre turbo-diesel.

Make: Mitsubishi

Model: 380

Released: Jul 2007

Mitsubishi's 380 sedan will undergo a mid-year facelift via modest cosmetic revisions. The Series III update will concentrate on interiors and specification levels. Some grade levels will also be streamlined. This will be the second upgrade the 380 has received in its 14-month life.

A facelifted Touareg arrives around July with a slight makeover. However, it carries over the upgraded engines introduced in November, including the superb 3.0-litre V6 TDi.

Model: Swift - Sedan

Released: Jul 2007

Suzuki will introduce a sedan range of its strong-selling Swift light car, to complement its hatch range. Launch timing is expected by around mid-2007, and the booted Swift should be powered by the same 74kW/133Nm 1.5-litre alloy DOHC VVT four-cylinder engine as the popular hatch.

Make: Land Rover

Model: Freelander

Released: Jun 2007

Land Rover's vital MkII Freelander is due on sale here in June. As announced at Melbourne, LR's compact SUV will be priced from $49,990 for the base Si6 SE (with a 171kW 3.2-litre petrol six), rising to $51,990 for the Td4 (118kW 2.2-litre turbo-diesel) and $55,990/$57,990 for the HSE (petrol/diesel).

Model: 1 Series

Released: Jun 2007

BMW has improved engine performance with its facelifted 1 Series five-door hatch. Expected to maintain its price-point when it arrives here in June, revised One has modified exterior and interior styling, a new-generation diesel, and, for petrol engines, reduced fuel consumption. BMW Oz won't take the new three-door, also revealed at Geneva in March 2007.

Model: Civic - Type R

Released: Jun 2007

Australian small car buyers may have to wait until June 2007 before being able to buy the Civic Euro hatchback. Currently only built at Honda’s Swindon plant in England, the Euro hatch is a version of the current UH Civic sedan, although the two actually share very few common parts.

Model: Nitro

Released: Jun 2007

The second Dodge contender after the Caliber will be the Nitro, due on sale here around mid-2007. Loosely based on the Jeep Cherokee platform, the Nitro is a separate-chassis mid-sized 4WD wagon powered by V6 petrol and diesel engines. Prices are likely to start at about $40,000.

Model: A3 - S3

Released: Jun 2007

Following the S versions of the two big sedans comes the small hot-hatch S3. Under the bonnet of the quattro three-door hatch is a 195kW/350Nm version of Audi's 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine, enabling the little S3 to sprint from standstill to 100km/h in a claimed 5.7 seconds.

Model: TT - Roadster

Released: Jun 2007

Audi's second-generation TT Roadster features the same front-end sculpting as its hard-top donor vehicle, but adds a retractable fabric roof. On sale in Australia in June, the front-drive is powered by a 147kW direct-injection 2.0-litre turbo, while the all-wheel-drive quattro offers a 184kW 3.2-litre V6.

Make: Aston Martin

Model: Vantage - V8 Roadster

Released: Jun 2007

Aston Martin previewed its first direct rival for the Porsche 911 Cabriolet, the V8 Vantage Roadster, at the 2006 Los Angeles Auto Show. The soft-topped Vantage Roadster features a hand-assembled 283kW 4.3-litre V8. First Australian deliveries will arrive here by around June 2007.

Make: Ford

Model: Fiesta - XR4

Released: Jun 2007

Ford has registered the XR4, which could point to a hot 2.0-litre Fiesta late in the year. But Ford will not say when or even if. If it does arrive it will be close to the Peugeot 206 GTi prices, so around $30,000.

Make: BMW

Model: 5 Series

Released: Jun 2007

BMW has given a mild facelift to its 5 Series sedan and wagon range. Expected on sale in Australia in the second half of 2007, external changes include an extra chrome bumper strip, wider kidney-shaped grille openings, ew headlights and a revised console, including a gearshift from the new X5.

Make: Mahindra

Model: Scorpio - Pik-Up

Released: Jun 2007

India's Mahindra will re-enter the Australian new-vehicle market as early as mid-2007, starting with a one-tonne utility. The Scorpio Pik-Up will be offered as a 4x2 and a 4x4 in two-door single-cab, four-door dual-cab and cab-chassis configurations, powered by a 2.5-litre 74kW diesel.

Model: Range Rover

Released: May 2007

Land Rover will introduce the TDV8 Range Rover Sport in June, featuring an all-new lightweight 200kW/640Nm 3.6-litre turbo-diesel V8, matched to a six-speed ZF automatic transmission. Large Brembo brakes are standard, as is Land Rover’s Terrain Response system with electronic rear diff.

Model: 350Z

Released: May 2007

An upgraded 350Z hits Australia around mid-2007. It gains an 80 per cent-new 230kW VQ35HR 3.5-litre V6 engine. Visually, Nissan has not tampered too much with the 350Z’s exterior. The aluminium bonnet gains a “power bulge” and there are clear-lens LED tail-lights.

Make: Chrysler

Model: Sebring

Released: May 2007

Chrysler has confirmed the Sebring mid-size sedan will be launched Down Under in mid-2007, as a rival for up market mid-size sedans like Honda's Accord. Three engines (a 124kW/220Nm 2.4-litre four, a 140kW/259Nm 2.7-litre V6 and a 103kW/310Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel) will be offered.

Released: May 2007

THE Q7 may be the new kid on the block but the A6-based Allroad quattro arrives around March. Expected to be offered as a turbo-diesel only, the talk is it will be the 3.0-litre TDi but the 2.7TDi may also be a possibility. Prices should put it under the Q7, which starts at $84,900

Model: Corolla

Released: May 2007

Toyota's next-generation Corolla will have a cleaner, more efficient and more powerful 1.8-litre four-cylinder when it reaches Australia in April. To be based on the Auris concept, expected the all-new Corolla to be sourced from Japan, with both the sedan and uniquely styled hatch avaliable from launch.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Golf - GT

Released: May 2007

Volkswagen will introduce the Golf GT variant in May, powered by a 125kW/240Nm supercharged and turbocharged 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine dubbed the TSI Twincharger. It will be positioned between Golf’s Sportline and GTI variants, at about $36,000.

Model: C4 Picasso

Released: May 2007

Citroen’s mini people-mover masterpiece, the C4 Picasso, boasts seating for up to seven and goes on sale here in the first quarter of 2007. Powered by either a 106kW 2.0-litre petrol four or a frugal 102kW 2.0-litre HDi diesel, the C4 Picasso drives through the front wheels via a new six-speed auto.
