MERCEDES-BENZ will fast-track the all-new E63 AMG sedan for Australianshowrooms in December, priced at $234,900. As before the heart of the new E63 lies a slightly more powerful 386kW (up from 378kW) version of AMG’s 6.2-litre petrol V8, which produces the same 630Nm of peak torque and revs to 7200rpm.

Released: Dec 2009

Audi is expected to launch its S5 Cabriolet flagship locally in December 2009. The S5 employs the S4 sedan’s 245kW/440Nm supercharged 3.0-litre V6 (instead of the S5 Coupe’s 4.2-litre V8), blasting it to 100km/h in a claimed 5.6 seconds. The open-top S5 weighs 1875kg, returns 9.7L/100km and emits 224g/km.

Model: Challenger

Released: Dec 2009

Mitsubishi’s next Challenger wagon is based on the ML Triton one-tonne ute. Powered by a 2.5-litre 100kW/314Nm four-cylinder turbo-diesel as fitted to the Triton, the mid-sized five-seater SUV should bring a significant fuel consumption advantage over the Toyota Kluger and Ford Territory.

Mazda is expected to launch its replacement for the current Mazda3 diesel models with the all-new 2.2-litre common-rail direct-injection inline four-cylinder recently launched in the Mazda6. Producing 136kW/400Nm, it will be priced around $30,000.

Model: Captiva

Released: Dec 2009

Holden will introduce a five-seat four-cylinder petrol version of its former Captiva Maxx SUV model to compete directly with Honda’s CR-V and Toyota’s RAV4. The Captiva 5 is powered by a 100kW 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine and is available in manual-only front-wheel-drive and automatic-only all-wheel drive guise.

Model: Supersports

Released: Dec 2009

Bentley’s fastest and most powerful car in the company’s history – the Bentley Continental Supersports is powered by a 463kW/800Nm 6.0-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine driving all four wheels through a revised ZF six-speed automatic transmission, will accelerate from rest to 100km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Model: Fiesta - ECOnetic

Ford Australia’s surprise reveal at the Melbourne show was the fuel-sipping diesel-powered version of its Fiesta light car. The ECOnetic Fiesta diesel is claimed to average just 3.7L/100km and sub-100g/km emissions rating. Power is by a 66kW/200Nm 1.6-litre Duratorq TDCi common-rail diesel engine.

Model: X240

Released: Dec 2009

The third vehicle to be launched by GWM will be a small five-door SUV called X240. Available in both two and four-wheel drive configurations and powered by a Mitsubishi-sourced 16-valve 2.4-litre engine, the compact GWM crossover will sell in the same segment as Chery’s Tiggo SUV.

Model: 7 Series - 760Li

Released: Dec 2009

BMW Australia has put a $386,000 pricetag on the new 760Li flagship that will top the local 7 Series limousine range. Available exclusively in long-wheelbase configuration and powered by BMW’s new all-alloy twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre petrol V12, the 400kW/750Nm. The 760Li sprints to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds.

Released: Dec 2009

BMW Australia will launch its most expensive SUV in December when the X6 M arrives with a $179,900 pricetag. Powered by a 408kW/680Nm twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8, the X6 M blasts to 100km/h in a mad 4.7 seconds, and has an average fuel consumption claimed at 14.3 L/100km.

Model: 1 Series - 123d hatch

Released: Dec 2009

BMW Australia will launch its new 123d hatch with a versatile 2.0 litre twin turbo-diesel inline four late in 2009. Powered by a high-output 150kW/400Nm four cylinder engine, available in six-speed automatic and manual guise. The 123d hatch is capable of a fuel consumption figure of just 5.2L/100km.

Released: Dec 2009

Audi will launch both Coupe and Roadster versions of its TT RS. Powered by a 250kW/450Nm 2.5-litre turbo charged five-pot petrol engine, via a six-speed transmission to a Haldex quattro clutch system. The TT RS is identified by its large front spoiler, square air intakes, TT RS badges, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

BMW Australia has confirmed the six-cylinder turbo-diesel version of its 3 Series convertible for late 2009. Powered by a high-output 180kW/520Nm turbocharged inline diesel six. Available only in six-speed automatic guise. The 330d convertible consumes just 6.8L/100km.

The next generation of Subaru's medium-sized Liberty-based Outback wagon will be the first recipient of Subaru’s first diesel engine, a 2.0-litre boxer four-cylinder powerplant. It is expected to debut in the third-generation Outback in late 2009.

Released: Nov 2009

Subaru’s Exiga six-seat wagon will be the second Subaru model, after the Tribeca, to have three rows of seats, with the third row able to fold flat. Largely based on the Liberty platform, the all-wheel-drive Exiga will be powered by a normally aspirated 2.5-litre engine for Australia.

Audi used the 2008 Geneva motor show to launch its new Q7 V12 TDI range-topper. The 368kW/1000Nm 60-degree 6.0-litre V12 engine propels the new Q7 flagship to 100km in a staggering 5.5 seconds. Fuel consumption is quoted at 11.9L/100km. The 12-pot Q7 TDI is expected locally in early 2009.

Model: 4007 - SUV

Released: Nov 2009

Peugeot will release its Outlander-based 4007 wagon in November. Delayed due to overseas demand, the French brand’s first SUV is powered by a new 155kW 2.2-litre HDi diesel engine. Available with five or seven seats. Standard equipment includes electronic stability control, ABS brakes and six airbags.

Released: Nov 2009

BMW Australia’s upgraded 6 Series incorporates a new bonnet with arrow-shaped lines, new chrome rear exhaust outlets, and new 19-inch alloy wheels. The new 6 Series also employs Brake Energy Regeneration system , reducing average fuel consumption by approximately 5.4 per cent.

For 2010 Audi’s Q7s midlife makeover features a redesigned Audi trademark single-frame grille, new front bumper and rear lamps. Fuel consumption is also improved for the 176kW 3.0-litre turbo-diesel V6 from 10.5L/100km to 9.1 L/100km. A clean diesel version is even more frugal at 8.9L/100km.

The sixth-generation Golf GTI hatch is expected on sale in Australia in late 2009. Representing an evolutionary, rather than revolutionary upgrade of the model it replaces, the GTI carries over its fundamental chassis architecture but with a revised 155kW turbocharged 2.0-litre DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine.

Released: Oct 2009

Mazda’s CX-7’s midlife update was revealed at Toronto. Changes include new sheet metal, revised airdam and larger grille, updated interior and additional powertrains. As well as the 2.3-litre turbo engine, Mazda may include 2.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol and 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engines.

Jeep's updated Wrangler hard-core off-roader arrives locally in late 2009. To be avaliable in both two-door and four-door open-air bodystyles. The facelift includes changes to headlamp, grille, and bumper. With gains in capability, refinement, interior space, comfort, fuel efficiency also expected.

A revised Jeep Patriot is expected to be launched in the third quarter of 2009. As with the Compass, the Patriot will gain better-quality, soft-feel plastics and revised colour combinations to address the criticism of poor interior quality.

Mitsubishi is expected to introduce an upgraded Outlander Compact SUV in October 2009. The facelift, which is believed to be identical to the GT concept, gains a new bonnet, grille, headlamps, tail lamps, and bumpers front and rear. Mechanical upgrades are expected to be minor.

Mitsubishi will launch a facelift to its Triton commercial range in October 2009. Changes include a more powerful 2.5-litre turbodiesel, and the possible addition of a 3.2-litre DiD diesel engine. The Dual Cab range is expected to gain an extended tray bed, with an extra 180mm of tray length.

Porsche's first four-door sedan, the Panamera will target four-door luxury sports cars like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Maserati Quattroporte. With a wide range of engines – from a range-topping V10 to a petrol-electric hybrid version, the front-engined Panamera will be Porsche’s fourth model line.

Released: Aug 2009

Skoda took the covers off its facelifted Octavia medium sedan and wagon & RS at the 2008 Paris show. Cosmetic changes include new headlights, grille and front bumper, while the rear includes a new tail-light cluster and bumper. The VW Group’s seven-speed twin-clutch DSG auto will also appear.

Audi will release its new V10 petrol-engined R8 locally in late 2009. The petrol R8 is powered by a 386kW/530Nm 5.2-litre V10, driving all four wheels via a six-speed manual or R-Tronic sequential manual gearbox. The R8 V10 is capable of 0-100km/h in a claimed 3.9 seconds.

Toyota rolled out a subtle facelift for its American-market Camry at the 2009 North American International Auto Show. Audi will launch a pair of sub-7.0-litre per 100km ‘green’ models from May. With a $74,500 125kW/350Nm 2.0 TDI four-cylinder, and $84,500 140kW/400Nm 2.7-litre V6 TDI common-rail units. Eschewing AWD, both have Audi’s Multitronic CVT continuously variable transmission which sends drive to the front wheels.

A redesigned version of the five-door Mazda3 MPS hatch should appear locally in late 2009. Employing a revised version of the current model's front-drive chassis with a lightly retuned version of the previous 190kW/380Nm 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Expect a sub-$40,000 price.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz E-class coupe will replace the current CLK as the entry-level Mercedes-Benz coupe. It is the second quad-headlight Mercedes model and will be positioned in price above the E-class sedan. The B-pillarless E-class Coupe is claimed to have a record 0.24Cd aerodynamic co-efficient.

Suzuki’s Alto light car aims to be the cheapest new car available in Australia – unless the Chinese get there first – with pricing of $11,000. The five-door hatch is powered by a 50kW, 993cc three-cylinder petrol engine, driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

Peugeot peeled the wraps off its 308 CC at the 2008 Australian International Motor Show. Due on sale here next July, the 308 CC is the latest of Peugeot’s coupe-cabriolet evolution, which comprises a number of innovative features like a warm-air heating system built into the front seats.

Alfa Romeo is working on a sub-147 small car aimed at the BMW-built Mini Cooper S. known as MiTo, it is based on Fiat’s Punto platform. Due in 2009, MiTo will have a unique design and is expected to include a 170kW-plus 1.8-litre direct-injection turbo engine, plus Alfa’s Q4 four-wheel drive system.

All future Toyota hybrids will bear the Prius nameplate, via three new hybrid Toyotas known internally as Prius A, B, and C. Sizewise, the next-generation Prius (B) will mimic Toyota's existing line-up, while Prius A is marked to be smaller than the current model, closer to Yaris size. Expected them in 2009.

Australia's first Chinese vehicle brand, Great Wall Motors (likely to be known in Australia as GWM), will launch Australia’s most affordable dual-cab utility, based on Great Wall’s Sailor. The highly-specified two-wheel drive four-door pick-up, powered by a 2.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, will be priced under $20,000.

An entry-level super-coupe from Ferrari made its official public debut at the Paris show. Ferrari’s new 2+2 is based on the folding steel-roofed M139 Spyder Pininfarina concept broke new ground for Ferrari. The California will be powered by an evolution of the F430's 4.3-litre V8.

Renault will launch a 125kW/270Nm 2.0 Turbo petrol engine to its Laguna hatch and Estate wagon range by mid 2009. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox. The 2.0T petrol engine delivers an averege fuel consumption of just 8.9 litres per 100km.

Audi will add a 125kW/350Nm 2.0 TDI and 199kW/330Nm 3.2 FSI to the Q5 line-up mid 2009. The 2.0 TDI delivers a fuel consumption of 6.8L/100km. In contrast, the 3.2 FSI delivers 9.3L/100km. Both share Audi’s famous ‘quattro’ all-wheel drive system, and seven-speed automated manual transmission.

Jaguar will replace its aging 2.7-litre turbo diesel engine in the regular XF model range late in 2009, with a new 3.0-litre twin-turbo 202kW/600Nm engine, which uses 12 per cent less fuel at 6.9L/100km on the European cycle, and can sprint from 0-100km/h in about 6 seconds.

The new generation Lexus RX hybrid range will morph from the current RX400h into the RX450h thanks to its use of a 3.5-litre V6 instead of the current 3.3-litre six, and first-hand reports claim it will deliver V8-style performance and even better fuel consumption.

BMW previewed an additional model to its 120d range at the Melbourne show. The 120d with manual transmission will be BMW’s most fuel-efficient model, returning 4.8L/100km. Power is by a 130kW/350Nm from the third-generation 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel. It will be priced at $46,790.

BMW Australia will expand its overhauled 7 Series with the introduction of its first diesel-engine 7 Series model. Priced at $198,800, it will only be available in standard wheelbase. Jaguar is expected to launch its performance XFR in late in 2009. Powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre, direct-injection V8 capable of 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.
