Despite announcing the closure of local manufacturing in 2016, Ford Australia is pushing ahead with facelift for what will be the last ever Falcon. Due in 2014, the Falcon is expected to keep the same basic glasshouse as the FG, but will feature a redesigned front end and updates to the rear. Expect some mechanical tweaks and improvements to technology features.

Ford’s new LPG powertrain will be available on an expanded range of Falcon sedan and ute models differentiated by new ‘EcoLPi’ badging. Ford's state-of-the-art EcoLPi engine will be produced alongside the 4.0-litre inline petrol sixes at Geelong and employs advanced injection technology to eliminate the loss of performance associated with LPG power.

The next all-new Falcon is due in early 2008 - 18 months after Holden's all-new VE Commodore appears. Based on an improved version of the current homegrown platform, the next Falcon will feature new styling, a six-speed auto, heavily revised and more economical engines and, hopefully, less weight.

Ford's answer to the VE Commodore, the BF MkII Falcon, goes on sale in October. Pricing and specs won't be announced until launch, but expect visual tweaks to headlights, bonnets, bumpers and grilles, plus the availability of a six-speed ZF automatic and stability control across the range.

Ford's born-again BA Falcon becomes due for its first facelift in October 2004, when it's expected to appear with less weight, updated interior and exterior cosmetics and extra standard equipment such as stability control and other Territory features. Available in six-cylinder, LPG or V8 guise and developed at a cost of $2.5 million, Ford's Rugged Terrain Vehicle comes at a premium of between $4500 and $5000 in either styleside or cab-chassis form. It features 80mm more ride height, 30mm wider wheel tracks, underbody protection and a rear diff lock.
