Nissan will lightly refresh its Pathfinder SUV with a 3.5-litre V6 petrol that is 50 per cent new, boosting outputs to 202kW and 340Nm. Revised ride and handling, as well as a new front fascia also feature.

Nissan’s seven-seat Pathfinder SUV range will be boosted by the arrival of the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which combines a battery-powered electric motor to a supercharged 2.5-litre four-cylinder engine. Nissan is hoping the hybrid variant will make up for the lack of diesel powertrain and it will bring fuel consumption down to 7.5 litres per 100km.

The fourth-generation Pathfinder, which reverts to a car-like monocoque platform instead of the previous Navara body-on-frame architecture. The more svelte seven-seat 4x4 wagon – unveiled in concept form at the 2012 Detroit show – will be imported into Australia from Nissan’s US plant in Tennessee. A smaller V6 petrol engine and CVT transmission promise to increase efficiency.

Priced from around $40,000.
