One of the new diesel powertrains is capable of sipping just 3.2L/100km on the Euro cycle, but it is not clear whether this is coming to Australia. Expect the GTI hot-hatch to arrive in 2015 with the option of a manual gearbox.

Available in five-door and three-door hatch bodystyles, it will be offered with three engines including a cracking 77kW/175Nm 1.2-litre turbo petrol TSI engine. Power will be fed via a regular manual transmission or the seven-speed dual-clutch automatic (DSG) gearbox.
