New car diary for October 2011

Make: Porsche

Model: Panamera - Turbo S

Released: Oct 2011

At $440,200 the Panamera Turbo S represents a $68,000 price premium over the all-wheel drive Panamera Turbo on which it is based. That buys the most powerful version ever seen of Porsche's 4.8-litre petrol V8, producing 410kW and 750Nm outputs (increasing to 800Nm for short bursts in ‘overboost’ mode). The result is a sprint to 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.

A raft of high tech fuel-saving measures are also set to be included.

Model: Yaris

Released: Oct 2011

Production delays mean that Toyota's crucial bigger and more efficient new third-generation Yaris will not arrive here until October.
