The MY2011 GT-R will represent a traditional midlife makeover to boost the relevance of Nissan's flagship sportscar. It will feature an engine upgrade to produce 33kW and 24Nm more than the outgoing model plus even more technology to further improve handling plus a reduction in fuel consumption.

Released: Mar 2011

The Octavia Scout TDI with a DSG dual-clutch automatic gearbox should compare favorably alongside rivals like the Subaru Outback and other jacked-up, wagon-based quasi-SUVs.

Model: CT - 200h

Released: Mar 2011

LEXUS has confirmed its first compact hatchback, the hybrid-only CT200h, will be priced from under $50,000 when it goes on sale in Australia. It will be powered exclusively by a modified version of Toyota’s 1.8-litre petrol-electric drive system from the Prius.

Model: Cruze

Released: Mar 2011

To coincide with the start of local production, Holden will facelift its popular Cruze sedan and upgrade to new-generation 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and 2.0-litre turbodiesel engines. A hotly-anticipated hatch version will debut in Q3 of 2011.

Model: A7 - Sportback

Released: Mar 2011

Filling the gap between A6 and A8, the A7 range will kick off with the Sportback as its most affordable iteration. It will feature lightweight aluminium chassis components and a choice of 3.0 TDI, 2.8 FSI and 3.0 TFSI engines with Quattro all-wheel drive. To come later are hot S7 and RS7 versions to compete with the likes of Porsche's Panamera and Aston Martin's Rapide.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: G-Class - 350 BlueTec

Released: Mar 2011

The diesel G350 is the first vehicle to be launched in Australia with Mercedes’ emissions-slashing BlueTec system. This system injects a urea compound to cut nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by up to 80 per cent, and is used on several Mercedes models overseas. Powered by the 155kW/540Nm 3.5-litre CDI diesel engine and priced at $159,900.

Model: XC60 - T5

Released: Mar 2011

Volvo’s excellent XC60 compact SUV lineup is to grow, with the addition of a T5 engine taken from its S60 stablemate. The comfortable, modern and spacious entry-level model is likely to be priced under $50,000.

Model: FJ Cruiser

Released: Mar 2011

Inspired by the 50-year-old FJ40 LandCruiser and designed to compete with the rugged Jeep Wrangler, the Prado-based FJ Cruiser ides on a sturdy ladder-frame chassis and will be powered by a 4.0-litre petrol V6 matched with a full-time 4WD system with dual-range transmission.

Model: 500 - Abarth

Released: Mar 2011

The flagship of the 500 model lineup features a turbocharged 1.4-litre engine, producing 118 kW and 230 Nm in ‘sports mode’. The first Abarth- badged Fiat to be sold on our shores is priced around $35,000.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: G-Class - G55 AMG

Released: Mar 2011

The supercharged G55 AMG has 373kW of power and 700Nm of torque. Australian dealers have already taken deposits for 10 of the flagship G-wagens, which take just 5.5 seconds to 0/100kmh. Based on the tough-as-nails ladder-chassis G-class used by the Australian Defence Force.

Make: Porsche

Model: Cayman - R

Released: Mar 2011

Porsche says ‘R’ stands for responsive, refined and racy. The Cayman R's chassis sits 20mm lower and the bodywork has a distinctive fixed rear spoiler compared with the Cayman S. The R also benefits from unique lightweight components, chassis tweaks and an extra 8kW, bringing the maximum output of its 3.4-litre direct-injection six-cylinder boxer engine to 243kW.
