Make: Mitsubishi

Model: Outlander - PHEV

Released: Apr 2014

A petrol-electric plug-in hybrid version of Mitsubishi’s mid-size Outlander SUV will hit local showrooms in 2014, making it the first plug-in hybrid SUV available in Australia. Mitsubishi is claiming official fuel figures on the European cycle of 1.9 litres per 100 kilometres and a cruising range of 897km when combining the petrol and electric motors.

Make: Subaru

Model: WRX - STI

Released: Apr 2014

Subaru's high-performance flagship is set to arrive with a carryover engine and powertrain, but tweaks to the suspension and transmission, making it one of the fastest STIs ever. Although styling on the new STI is contentious, the performance of the road-going rally car is undeniable.

Make: Skoda

Model: Rapid

Released: Apr 2014

Skoda will introduce a new small car to Australia that sits below the Golf-based Octavia. The Rapid was to arrive in its sedan-like Liftback bodystle, but Skoda Australia is holding out for the more hatch-like Spaceback instead. Expect an opening price of around $20,000.

Make: Lexus

Model: CT

Released: Apr 2014

A mid-life facelift should keep the Lexus CT200h hatch fresh for at least another couple of years in the face of some stiff competition including the rejuvenated Audi A3 and strong selling Mercedes A-Class. Subtle styling changes include a more prominent ‘spindle’ grille and new alloy wheel designs, but the mechanicals stay the same.

Make: Maserati

Model: Ghibli

Released: Apr 2014

Maserati’s 5 Series baiting Ghibli sedan finally arrives in April, after strong global demand pushed its local launch back by several months. The mini-Quattroporte will be powered by a pair of V6 engines, but there is no word yet on whether the diesel, Maserati’s first, will make it Down Under.

Make: Nissan

Model: X-Trail

Released: Apr 2014

Nissan's third-generation X-Trail is rumoured to be priced more aggressively, helping Nissan push more sales of the compact SUV. One of the only cars in its class to feature optional seven-seats.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: GLA

Released: Apr 2014

Mercedes-Benz will add another SUV to its line-up in the form of the A-Class based GLA in 2014. The GLA is slightly longer than the A-Class and while powertrain and specs are yet to be confirmed, the GLA concept from the 2013 Shanghai motor show featured the same 155kW 2.0-litre engine as the A250 hot hatch, driving all four wheels via a seven-speed dual clutch auto.

Make: Nissan

Model: X-Trail

Released: Apr 2014

The next-gen Nissan X-Trail was finally revealed at the 2013 Frankfurt motor show and features a cleaner design than the current model. The smoother lines replace the sharp edges, but Nissan insists it will be just as capable off road as the outgoing model.

Make: Porsche

Model: 911 - Turbo Cabriolet

Released: Apr 2014

The Turbo and Turbo S versions of Porsche’s 911 Cabriolet are lighter, more powerful and about 15 per cent more fuel efficient than their predecessors. A folding fabric roof is now supported by a magnesium frame and it opens and closes in 13 seconds at speeds of up to 50km/h.

The MkIII Mini hatch will spawn the first front-drive BMW, so expect class-leading dynamics and high technology coupled with fuel-sipping new engines and possibly an electric or hybrid model.

Model: A8

Released: Apr 2014

Audi’s flagship A8 sedan gets a mid-life update and arrives in Australia in the second quarter. In a bid to keep up with the lauded Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi will introduce more powerful and efficient petrol and diesel engines, added safety technology and new optional ‘Matrix’ LED headlights that feature 25 individual diodes per unit.

Mini's third-generation hatch line-up will bring along new styling tweaks and new powertrain options. The new Mini hatch-range is set to help sell more Mini's in 2014.
