Model: Rondo

Released: May 2008

KIA revealed the car it hopes will re-invigorate the mini-MPV market at the Australian International Motor Show, called the Rondo. The compact seven-seat wagon replaces the Carens. Available with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a choice of a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic.

Model: 1 Series - convertible

Released: May 2008

Filling yet another market niche for the prestige German brand, the 1 Series Convertible will be launched alongside the coupe model range. Featuring a fabric roof that takes 22 seconds to open and close and stores away under a solid cover, the 1 Series Convertible offers 280 litres of luggage space.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Tiguan

Released: May 2008

Volkswagen’s Golf-based Tiguan compact SUV arrives in May. The 2.0-litre turbo-diesel 103TDI will be priced at $35,990 (plus $2300 for a six-speed auto) and the 2.0-litre petrol-engined 147TSI auto at $42,990. In the third quarter comes the detuned petrol 125TSI, priced from $33,990 ($36,290 auto).

Make: Alfa Romeo

Model: 8C - Competizione

Released: May 2008

Five examples of the Alfa Romeo 8C coupe, unveiled at Frankfurt in 2003 and built as a left-hand drive only, are due to arrive in Australia mid 2008. Designed by Giugiaro, the Porsche 911 rival is powered by a 330kW 4.2-litre blown V8, offering 0-100km/h acceleration in 4.5 seconds.

Make: Mazda

Model: Mazda2 - 3-dr hatch

Released: May 2008

Mazda Australia is expected to launch its three-door Mazda2 in mid-2008. The three-door will give Mazda a chance to offer a lower entry-level price for its Mazda2 range, which currently kicks-off in Australia $16,500. Power is by the same 76kW 1.5-litre four-cylinder as the popular five-door.

Make: Hyundai

Model: i30

Released: May 2008

Hyundai will introduce a four-speed automatic transmission to its popular i30 diesel range by May 2008. The 1.6-litre turbo-diesel engine generates 85kW and 255Nm while achieving a fuel economy figure of 6.0L/100km. The diesel-auto i30 was revealed at the Melbourne motor show in March.

Model: Falcon

Released: May 2008

The next all-new Falcon is due in early 2008 - 18 months after Holden's all-new VE Commodore appears. Based on an improved version of the current homegrown platform, the next Falcon will feature new styling, a six-speed auto, heavily revised and more economical engines and, hopefully, less weight.

Model: Persona

Released: May 2008

Proton’s new Persona small car is built on a unique platform, but remains essentially a sedan version of the Gen.2. Similar in size to the Mazda3 sedan and with a big 430-litre boot, it will come with dual airbags, ABS, power windows and parking sensors as standard. Expect it here mid 2008.

Make: Jaguar

Model: XF

Released: May 2008

Jaguar’s all-new XF luxury sedan replaces the S-Type and is due on sale in May, with an opening price of $105,500 for both the 2.7-litre diesel V6 Luxury and the 3.0-litre petrol V6 Luxury. The XF 4.2-litre petrol V8 Premium Luxury will cost $130,500, with the flagship XF 4.2-litre SV8 at $166,700.

Model: A3 - Sportback 1.9TDi e

Released: May 2008

Audi Australia will unveil a new generation of super fuel efficient ‘e’ for low emission to its A3 range in May. The A3 Sportback 1.9 e is the latest generation fuel efficient diesel developing 77kW/ 250Nm, with fuel economy of 4.5 L/100km and a reduction of CO2 emissions by 10 g/km or 8 percent compared to the standard version.

Make: BMW

Model: 1 Series - Coupe

Released: May 2008

BMW is expected to reveal its new 1 Series coupe derivative at the 2007 Frankfurt motor show in October. Codenamed "Snowflake", the two-door 1 Series notchback will enter production next year and, unlike the three-door 1 Series hatch, is a certainty for release in Australia next year.
