Model: XV

Released: Jan 2012

The new Impreza-based XV, which was revealed in concept form at the 2011 Shanghai motor show. The XV Concept shares the same high-riding stance and hardy black plastic wheel-arch mouldings and side skirts of the current Impreza XV and is designed to fit below the Forester, with which it shares a platform.

Make: Mercedes-Benz

Model: SLS AMG - Roadster

Released: Jan 2012

Mercedes-Benz will launch a cabriolet version of its SLS AMG supercar priced from $487,500 - 19k more than its hardtop sibling. The roadster is based on the same lightweight aluminium spaceframe chassis and, with the same hand-built 420kW/650Nm 6.2-litre normally aspirated V8 engine, has equivalent 0-100km/h acceleration of 3.8 seconds and governed 317km/h v-max.

Make: Kia

Model: Optima

Released: Jan 2012

Kia Australia will finally get its hands on an entry-level version of the head-turning Optima, which will join the existing single variant line-up. The Si will be powered by the same 2.4-litre petrol engine as its sibling, and will be priced around the $30,000 mark.

Make: Volkswagen

Model: Scirocco - R

Released: Jan 2012

VW Australia has given the green light to the most powerful version of Volkswagen’s sleek three-door ‘coupe’, the Scirocco R. Powered by a 188kW 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder engine but with front-drive and weighing less than the four-paw Golf R, it should make for an exciting drive.

Make: Hyundai

Model: Accent

Released: Jan 2012

Hyundai will release its first diesel light-car and what it bills as Australia’s most affordable oil-burner in the form of the Accent CRDi. Its 1.6-litre engine delivers 94kW and 265Nm of torque while consuming just 4.4L/100km of fuel.

Model: Compass

Released: Jan 2012

The redesigned Compass, which made its world debut at the 2011 Detroit show, is more clearly positioned above the closely-related Patriot – with higher equipment levels and front-end styling resembling that of the recently revised Grand Cherokee flagship.

Model: Gallardo - LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradale

Released: Jan 2012

The latest and probably last of a long line of limited-edition Gallardos, the Super Trofeo Stradale is claimed to be the most extreme Gallardo ever and based on the lightweight Superleggera. It features race-bred aerodynamics and carbon-fibre additions that celebrate the one-make Lamborghini Blancpain Sper Trofeo race series in Europe.

More powerful version of the GranTurismo-based GranCabrio cabriolet to surface in early 2012 in Australia with tuned Ferrari-derived 4.7-litre V8 and F1 inspired exterior details.
